Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve TourKoshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is located in Saptari and Sunsari districts in eastern Nepal. The Koshi Tappu Safari covers the vast expanse Koshi River with its blue waters and lush jungle areas on both sides. It is considered as the major attraction of the safari. Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve attracts a large number of migratory birds. It was established in 1976 with the aim to protect the grassland and islands in the floodplains of Sapta Koshi River. It is also the last habitat of the Arna (wild water buffalo). Bird watchers arrive here in search of the beautiful Bengal florican and the flamboyant sarus cranes. More than 440 species of birds have been recorded here including those that arrive from Siberia and Tibet around November to February. The reserve is also home to wild boar, jackals, pythons and crocodiles. The endangered Gangetic dolphins are seen occasionally when they surface in the river. You also can explore the forest of Koshi Tappu riding on elephant back. Here you will see the hattisar (elephant stable) where elephant breed regularly and which is one of few such facilities in Asia. The easiest means of getting there is by air to Biratnagar and by road from the airport to Koshi Tappu. The reserve in not far from the Mahendra Highway and there are buses from Itahari going in.


Trip day to day itinerary

Day 01 :- Drive or fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. After arrival you will be presented brief introduction of the facility and program. This day's attractions include bird walk in the marshland outside the reserve to see the strokes, ibises, snipes, waterfowl, birds of prey etc. In the evening you can enjoy cultural program performed by local people. You stay overnight at lodge.

Day 02 :- After breakfast you set out for full day excursion on boat and four wheels drive with packed lunch to see waders, waterfowl, birds of prey, marsh crocodile, otters, wild water buffalo and Gangetic Dolphins including a visit to Pink Tower.

Day 03 :- Preceding a delicious breakfast you go for bird walk inside the reserve in the scrub forest, grasslands and wetland habitat with pack lunch to see swamp partridge, black necked stork, buntings, bulbuls etc. In the afternoon you can either continue bird watching or enjoy optional elephant ride to watch Arna the wild water buffalo, blue bull, hog deer, fishing etc.

Day 04 :- Early morning you can either enjoy bird watching around the camp area or have leisure. After breakfast you depart for Kathmandu.
